The Wedding Singer
The Wedding Singer, in the film the lead roles were played by Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore.
This version of the touring production at the Orchard Theatre until Saturday 25th March, sees Jon Robyns play Robbie and Cassie Compton taking on the role of Julia, both are perfectly cast.
The cast also includes X Factor and Dancing on Ice star Ray Quinn as the not so loveable Glen Gulia, Emmerdales Roxanne Pallett as Holly and hi-di-hi's Ruth Madoc as Rosie, in fact every member is fantastic.
The basis of the show, it's 1985 and Robbie is a Wedding Singer who gets dumped at the Alter on his big day.
One of the waitresses at his workplace, Julia, supports him through his heartbreak, while preparing for her own wedding to Glen, a successful Wall Street Trader.
Robbie wonders if Julia is making the right choice. Glen is rich, successful and did we mention rich! It's what every women wants right?
The film clips, effects and the clever and effective set keep reminding you it's the mid eighties' along with some nice one liners in the script. Warning the script does contain some adult material, it's effective and not over used.
The show won't have the big 80s hits featured in the film, as the production is full of new original material, except for Robbie's song to the women who dumped him, this is one of many highlights. Trust me, the lack of 80's song won't take away from your enjoyment.
The show is fast paced, entertaining and delivers many memorable screens, watch out for the bar routine in the second half, it's very clever.
This is a show not to be missed. You can catch it till 25th March
